How to Buy a Portrait
How does one arrange to purchase, buy, or commission a portrait by Steadman Uhlich?
The process starts with an initial complimentary face to face Consultation with Steadman. This generally takes about thirty minutes to one hour to allow enough time for Steadman to fully understand what the client wants him to create for them. There is no obligation and no “high-pressure sales tactics.” For most people the consultation reminds them of a friendly conversation and introduction. Based on the consultation, the prospective client is given a firm quote for the total cost of the portrait project. This quote (i.e. the fee) will not be exceeded. There is no typical sitting fee. Every portrait begins with the Consultation.
The entire sales and creative process is designed to carefully understand the desires of the client and to yield a portrait that is the finest possible. There is no “cookie-cutter” “sitting fee + package” approach. Each client is treated as a unique individual with unique tastes and desires. The result is an outstanding portrait for each person. For a better idea of how this works, read the “Testimonial Quotes by Portrait Clients” on the following pages to see what they thought of the artist, the art, the process and the portrait. Follow these easy steps to purchase, commission, or buy a portrait and to find happiness. Continue on your tour of the website and many of your questions will be answered with visual examples.

How to buy a Portrait Session.
Three Easy Steps to Happiness.
Please follow these easy steps.
My consultation process is carefully designed to make things easier, less stressful, and to help you get what you really want. It also helps me create the very best portrait for you.
1. Before you call me, I encourage you to look at the entire website and/or DVD Portfolio and read the Portrait FAQs.
Take your time. Absorb the information and images. Read the Testimonial Quotes from my clients. Read the Comments from Art Gallery Visitors. Read the descriptive pages for Chiaroscuro, my Chiaroscuro Style and my SkinsitiveTM Styles.
Please read the Portrait FAQ list of questions and answers prior to calling me. The Portrait FAQ answers 100 common questions my clients generally ask me. The more you know before we meet, the more at ease you will be when we discuss what you want me to make for you. Watching the DVD Portfolio or thoroughly viewing this website will reduce your stress. Don’t skip this step as it is essential. I mentioned elsewhere on this website that the DVD Portfolio is a better way of seeing the portraits because it lets you see hundreds of examples at about Lifesize. When you and I meet, you will have a ‘visual vocabulary’ to use when discussing your interests with me. This website will help you to tell me what size, style, and ‘look’ you may prefer to have or if you want, you can leave it entirely up to me. That will save us both time and lead to a better fit for you.
2. When you look over the portraits on this website, keep in mind which portraits you like the most.
This will allow me to help you pick a Session Style that most appeals to you or fits you. You may want to refer to some of my portraits by their “title” or the names found in italics below most portraits. This will help me understand what appeals to you the most. Most people write down the titles they like so we can refer to those portraits when we meet.

Each and every client has different wants and so each Portrait Project is unique.
Fees are not discussed until you meet Steadman face-to-face for your complimentary Consultation.
The total fee for the portrait will be determined before you commit to spending a penny.
You will be given a fixed price written contract that specifies the total fee for what you want Steadman to make for you.

3. Call me and arrange a complimentary face-to-face Consultation.
This will allow me to help you pick a Session Style that most appeals to you or fits you. I assure you there is never any pressure put on you to buy. And there is never any pressure to spend more money than you want to spend. You will be dealing directly with the artist (there is no ‘portrait broker,’ ‘sales consultant’ or ‘sales rep’ between you and the artist) so there is no misunderstanding or mis-communication about what you really want. I always look at the Consultation as a friendly meeting with someone who obviously likes my work. Don’t worry, there are no manipulative sales tactics used. It is generally a very nice and friendly conversation and sharing time. I will come prepared to answer your questions. Devote about one hour to the Consultation. Some take less time. Some take more. I will never rush you.
Here is what one of my clients wrote about her Consultation in her Testimonial Letter:
“I called him and asked to meet for a consultation . We had a very friendly, unhurried, and no-pressure meeting. He is so easy to talk to in person. I showed him dozens of my favorite snapshots and other professionally made portraits of my daughter. He listened very carefully to my desires. There was no pressure to buy. Instead, I felt like I was making a new friend. That is how he is: friendly, honest, and passionate about his art.”
There is no financial commitment to the Consultation.
It does not cost you anything but a little time and only requires you to use your imagination.
We will only discuss the cost or fee of your portrait project after you and I both understand exactly what you want me to create for you. It takes some time to get to that point of mutual and clear understanding.
Is an Unforgettable PortraitTM by Steadman expensive? Only you can answer that.
