The most Frequently Asked Question is: “Can I get a copy of your price list?”

Steadman’s answer is:
“There is no price list. Every portrait project is different. No two clients have ever wanted the same thing. There is no typical ‘sitting fee plus print package.’ If you are interested in a truly special custom portrait for you or for someone you love, simply call me after reviewing this website and let’s discuss what you want me to make for you. That phone call costs you nothing but a little time and it makes sure you get what you want. Call now and tell me what you have in mind. The Studio number up above in the red Contact Box on this and every other page on this site. The first question a potential client should ask is this: “Can I tell you what I would like you to make for me?”   My answer to that question is always “Yes!”

Pricing, Price Lists, Costs, How Much?

I did not find a price list on your website.  Where is the price list?

There is no price list (see answer above).

Is it expensive to commission a portrait?

No. “Expensive” is a relative term. For some people it may seem inexpensive, for other people it may seem expensive, but for all of my clients it seemed “Worth every penny!”

Here is what a few of my portrait clients wrote in their Verbatim Testimonial Comments:

“I am a hundred times more pleased with this portfolio than I am with either the oil portrait (by another artist) or the prints from other photographers.

“The portrait is a masterpiece that I will treasure each and every day. I could have searched high and low and never found a gift that will bring my family more pleasure than this beautiful picture in time of (my daughter).”

“It looks better than any painted portrait could.”

“Thank you for one of the most memorable experiences of my life.”

“There are many people who claim to do portraits, or be photographers…but what you end up with is what you pay for: portraits that are blank, have no uniqueness, and bleak expressions or unnatural faces that make you look awkward and odd. If you want a portrait that will literally take the breath away of anyone who walks in your home and sees it, Steadman does it. If you want a portrait that will be a timeless piece of artwork for generations to come…you want Steadman. He works with you and is tireless in achieving a work of art that is YOU.”

Is it expensive to hire Steadman to make a portrait?

No. “Expensive” is a relative term. For some people it may seem inexpensive, for other people it may seem expensive, but for all of my clients it seemed “Worth every penny!”

Is it expensive to hire Steadman to photograph someone or something for me?

Location Work and Travel to Your Location

Will Steadman travel to our country, state, city, home, or office to create our portraits?

Yes!  For years, many people came from all across the USA and several people even came from abroad to my studio to have me make their portraits.  Now I can come to you! I am currently traveling across the Western USA but I am also available for special trips to do location work, here in the USA or abroad.

Is it possible for Steadman to photograph us in our own home?

Yes! I often photograph people in their home or office or other locations, but you might not be able to tell this from the photos I make.  When we meet, I can show you numerous examples of “in home” or “outside of home” portraits.  You may not be able to tell by looking at my Portrait Portfolio, but many of the portraits were actually made in a home or apartment or small office.

Here is a portrait that was made in a home.  This is just one of the many Portrait Styles that I have developed for my work with people.  This example is also finished in my “Signature Style” with what my clients and I call “Steadman’s Golden Tone” finish.  This particular image also looks very nice in Classic Black & White finish or in Full Color finish. Here is another portrait made IN a home, though it looks just like it was made in a high-end professional photo studio. This example is finished in Steadman’s Classic Black & White finish style.  This image also looks very nice in Steadman’s Golden Tone and it looks pretty in Full Color too. Here are two more portraits, but these were made outside. They look like they were made in a high-end professional photo studio. These examples are finished in Steadman’s Classic Black & White finish style.  These images also look very nice in Steadman’s Golden Tone and they look pretty in Full Color too. We want our portraits or photo session made at our home. Will Steadman photograph us at our home (or office) if we want?

Yes! I often photograph people in their home or office or other locations, but you might not be able to tell this from the photos I make. If you want some feature of your home to show in the photo, or the entire home or some part of your location to show in the photo, that is possible. Just call me to discuss what you want.

Here are a few examples of portraits I made outside. These portraits were made outside, but  they look as if they were made in a high-end photo studio.  Click an image to make it larger.

The following two portraits were made without the use of a studio.  I don’t need a studio to make high quality portraits that appear as if they were made in a photo studio, or on an theatre stage.  In this case, I made two portraits of the same woman, wearing the same garments, same jewelry, similar pose, and at the same time (moments apart). But, notice the difference!  For the image on the right I wanted to create a different feel and impression. Look closely at her face (click on the thumbnails below to enlarge the photos). Notice the difference.  This is what I call “seeing multiple facets” of a person’s personality.

.DIVA1086-800px-SGT-Steadman-Uhlich-wm3

Now here is an interesting example of two portraits meant to show unity.  This is a matched set of portraits of a couple (husband and wife).  While these two photos were made on the same day, one was made inside, while the other was made outside at a later time.   Yet, they match. This was done so they could be displayed together in their home. These portraits look as if they were made in a high-end photo studio. Click an image to make it larger.

Examples of Portraits Showing Environment or Landscape (Outside Portraits):

The next few examples show my Signature Style for my Western Portfolio.   These were made outside a home or on a  ranch, but in these cases I have chosen to show some of the land in the image. These are also finished in my Signature “Steadman’s Golden Tone” toning (color) finish too. These same images looks very nice in Classic Black & White or Full Color too. Click the image to make it larger.  While all four of the following examples are shown in my “Signature Style” finishes (color or toning), these same images also look very nice in Full Color.  If you want a Full Color portrait, simply tell me prior to the photo session.

As you look at these photos please notice that the photo’s emphasis is on the person (a portrait) rather than on the landscape or surroundings.  My personal preference is to see more of the person, including their expression rather than seeing them from a great distance (as is commonly seen in many outdoor portraits).  Because of my preference, I typically choose to minimize the landscape to become a stylized visual element that does not overpower or dominate the human.

Model Portfolios and Steadman’s Model Style Session

More outside portraits.  This time in a very different Portrait Style I call “Model Style.”  These were made at a very nice home, with some of the photos made inside and some outside.  The composite photo you see below is known as a Model Comp Card.  This was made for a teenage girl who wanted to start modeling.  There are two pages, long pages on my old website showing many different photos in a Model Style Session for this one teen. You can not only see the photos from this session, you will also see other “comp cards” for her and also see many Verbatim Comments from people from around the world who enjoyed seeing her photos.  I highly recommend reading those comments.  Here is one example of a Comp Card. Click the image to see it larger.

More outside portraits.  This time the subjects are two children (a brother and sister) playing outside.  The examples shown would also look very nice in my Classic Black & White finish or in Full Colors finish.  The first image shows the seven year old girl wakeboarding.  The fourth image is special to me, as it shows the very first moments of the boy’s very first ride on a bicycle. He had fun and so did I.

Where is Steadman’s Studio?

I make my photographs where I need to make them, whether that is at a home, in an office, or outside.  I do not need a brick and mortar studio (building or office) to create the beautiful portraits you see in my portfolio. I have photographed people in churches, on lakes, in boats, on and in firetrucks, in kitchens, in living rooms, on decks, in an alley behind a commercial building, in a hallway, in a concert hall, in a showroom, in a salon, on a golf course, on a ranch, in a store, in a restaurant, in a front yard, in a backyard, in a barn, in a horse pasture, in a round pen, in a rodeo arena, in a horse arena, in a doorway, in a museum, and in a photo studio.  The quality is always high.

Is the quality of the work as good when done in a home as it would be if done in a professional studio? How can that be?

What makes the key difference in the quality of a photograph is the photographer and their skill, talent, and creativity.  Throughout this website you see hundreds of unique portraits that have gotten acclaim and “WOW” comments from literally thousands of Art Gallery Visitors who saw the actual portraits.

Many of the portraits you see here were actually photographed in very small spaces in private homes, small apartments, cramped offices, office conference rooms, dining rooms, hallways, doorways, basement rooms, dens, and even in a restaurant booth at a local diner!  Some have even been photographed outside, but look as if they were made inside a professional photography studio.  You will not be able to tell a difference. A fancy studio is not required for me (Steadman Uhlich) to create unforgettable portraits

The outstanding quality of the portraits on this website is the same because the photographer is the same (i.e. Steadman Uhlich made them all). You have total assurance that your finished portrait will be excellent wherever the session takes place.  Outstanding photography does not depend on fancy cameras, expensive lenses, elaborate photography lights, software gimmicks (Photoshop), or photography gimmicks and gadgets. It is truly dependent on the talent, skills, and creativity of the photographer.

Here is an example showing a Snapshot Versus Portrait comparison. The portrait on the right (below), was made in a very small apartment living room, not in a large commercial photography studio.  I do not need a large studio space to make outstanding portraits.

I called directory assistance and looked in my phone book and could not find a listing for Steadman Uhlich. Why?

The SUFA Studio phone number is a wireless number and consequently unlisted in the telephone directory or in directory assistance. This is the phone number you should call for all voice communication. This is the number on our business cards, brochures, posters and website. Steadman is currently traveling the American West while working full-time on a several concurrent book projects.  This is a long term project involving months of travel across the USA.

I called the above wireless phone number several times and never got an answer. Why?

First, did you leave a message as requested by my answering machine?  Please leave a detailed voicemail message and we will return your call as soon as possible but this may be a few hours or the next day if Steadman is traveling, conducting photography sessions, or meeting clients.

Will Steadman Uhlich travel to conduct a portrait session at the client’s home or out of state?

Yes, that is possible! Steadman is now available for global travel to make portraits where you need him to be. The quality of the finished portrait is still at the highest levels and no one can tell the difference from a photograph created in Steadman’s studio. In fact, many of the portraits in Steadman’s Portfolio were created in a home, apartment, or place of business. Many of Steadman’s portraits may look like they were made in a large studio, when in fact they were made on location. Even professional photographers cannot tell which photos were made in a studio and which were made on location. Steadman is currently traveling the Western USA during 2013 and may be coming your way or near you this year.  Call to arrange a photo session.

Family Portraits

Is it possible for Steadman to photograph us IN our own home? I want to see some of my furniture or interior in the photo. I want to see some of the INSIDE of my home or office.

Yes! Many of the photographs you see within my portfolio of portraits were actually made in private homes or apartments or offices, even when they appear to have been made in a photo studio.

Here is a portrait that was made in a home and in this case shows some of the furnishings too.  This is just one of the many Portrait Styles that Steadman has developed for his work with people.  This example is also finished in his “Signature Style” with Steadman’s Golden Tone finish.  This particular image also looks very nice in Classic Black & White finish or in Full Color finish. I want both casual and formal portraits. Is this possible?

Yes! I often make more than one style of portrait for my clients.

I want a portrait like no one else has.  Can Steadman create something unique or distinctive for me (or my child)?

Yes!  Distinctive and unusual and “unforgettable” portraits are my specialty. View my Portrait Portfolio for a small sample of my work.

Here is one example of a portrait I made for a young woman. It was given to her for her 21st birthday by her loving father. They both loved the portrait.

My daughter is at a private school out of state and wants to have a distinctive “senior portrait” for her school’s yearbook.  Can Steadman help us?

Yes!  Here are a few Verbatim Testimonial Comments from my clients regarding portraits of their children:

“Each child feels so special and loves the way they look.”

“The end result truly reflects each person’s individual style beautifully.”

I am going to have a baby.  I want some tasteful shots of me during my pregnancy. Can Steadman help me?

My daughter (or son) is a ballet dancer. Most ballet students get the ‘same old same old’ looking ballet portraits. Can Steadman create distinctive portraits of her in her ballet costume?

Yes! View my Portrait Portfolio for a small sample of my work.  However, some of my most interesting portraits of ballet dancers (male or female) are not shown on the internet.  Those can be seen in a private viewing, when we meet. I can make fantastic portraits of your dancer, whether in a performance or not. Professional Prima Ballerinas, Prime Dancers, Broadway Musical Lead Dancers, and Ballet Directors have praised my Ballet work as “outstanding” and “art” and beautiful.

My wife is a musician/artist and I want to give her a special portrait she can use for self-promotion such as on a CD or DVD cover.  Can Steadman help?

Yes!  View my Portrait Portfolio for a small sample of my work.   Also view a selection of some of my favorites (but not all) of my work with pianists in my “The Art of Music: The Pianist Series” on my old website.  While there, look at the photos but also read the comments from people from around the world who have seen these portraits of pianists. Some of the comments are from other musicians, some from professional photographers who were impressed.  There are five long pages with numerous examples of the photos I made of these concert pianists.  So, make sure you click the “Next Page” link found at the bottom of each page to see all five pages. Then call me to discuss what you have in mind and your needs and to tell me which instrument.

Here is just one of many fine portraits I made for musicians. This illustration shows a Snapshot Versus Portrait of the same woman. The two photos were made just minutes apart, with no makeover or photoshop gimmicks.

I saw a photo of a little boy fishing by a small plastic pond (or a girl with fairy wings sitting on a toadstool) and want one of my child.  Will Steadman make a photo like that for me?

No. I do not use commercial  fake “Photo Studio Plastic Props” (common to photography studios) like that. I also don’t use: fake flowers, fake animals, fake trees, fake Grecian columns, fake ponds, fake lily pads, baskets, buckets, or flower pots. I prefer genuine and natural props if any are used at all. I prefer natural over plastic or fake. If you want a photo of your child fishing, let’s go to the lake!  The following two photos show a young boy fishing with his grandfather, and the first fish he caught, with his authentically happy smile.

I need a photographer for my child’s birthday party.  Will Steadman photograph the party for us?

No. You need a photographer who has the time to cover events such as a birthday, barmitzvah, retirement party, corporate parties.  Ask a local professional photographer if they photograph events such as these. I don’t have the time for this type of event work. However, if you want to have an unforgettable portrait of your child, call me.  Take a look at the many distinctive portraits I have made of children and youths of all ages by viewing my Portrait Portfolio.

I am the coach of a little-league baseball (or basketball or football) team.  Will Steadman photograph ‘team sports’ for us?

No. You need a photographer who has the time and desire to photograph team sports or sporting events.

I saw a calendar/book with a photograph of a baby photoshopped into a flower (or on a stack of towels) done by another photographer.  That photographer is famous and I want some photos of my daughter to look like her/his work. Will Steadman copy that photo for me?

No. I do not “copy” other photographer’s work.  Contact the original photographer. Hire me if you want my unique creative styles, new creativity, and distinctive work.

I want a book of photographs of my family (or child). Can Steadman make one for me?

Yes!  I have done this and different types of large portfolios of prints for many families.

I don’t want a large wall portrait. Instead, I would like a photo album or portfolio loaded with prints. Is this available from Steadman?

Yes!  I have done this and different types of large portfolios of prints for many families.

Do I have to buy a large ‘wall portrait’ or a Lifesize portrait or a painted portrait?

No, you do not have to purchase a large wall portrait.  Some of my clients only want small prints, 8x10s, or an album or portfolio of prints. I am flexible.

Someone Hates Having Their Photo Taken

I never like the way I look in photos. I “take” terrible photos. I am not photogenic. Can Steadman help me?

Yes!  Most of my clients say the same thing. In fact, it is one of the reasons I am hired, over other photographers, because of my expertise in working with people who are not “models” and not comfortable in front of a camera.  Take a look at my Portrait Portfolio and as you look at the many photos of people of all ages, keep in mind that most of them told me the same thing as you: “I am not photogenic.”  See if you find their portraits interesting or pretty or striking or beautiful or full of character.  I also encourage you to carefully view a special page on my site.  I call this Snapshots Versus Portraits.   You will see over 40 different examples showing a direct comparison of a snapshot versus a portrait I made of the very same person.

My children hate having their portrait made. I have to drag them to the photographer’s studio. And they hate it. And they never like the way they look in the photos.  It is very stressful for me and them. And I hate those corny poses. Can Steadman help?

Yes! Many of my clients express the very same concerns about getting good photographs from children  (and teens) who ‘hate’ to be photographed.  I have helped parents get the truly natural and touching portraits of their children (and teens).   I use unique methods and what my clients call my own “magic” to create the type of portraits that cause mothers, fathers, grandparents, children, and strangers to say “WOW.” The results are truly “unforgettable.”  Take a look at my Portrait Portfolio and as you look at the many photos of children and youths or teens of all ages, keep in mind that most of them told me the same thing as you: “My kids hate having their portrait made.”  See if you find their portraits interesting or pretty or striking or beautiful or full of character or fun.  While I often display more serious portraits of children, I have just as many in my private portfolios of children laughing and smiling and having a wonderful fun time in my studio.  I can show you many when we meet.  I also encourage you to carefully view a special page on my site.  I call this Snapshots Versus Portraits.   You will see over 40 different examples showing a direct comparison of a snapshot versus a portrait I made of the very same person.

Here is what one of my  Art Gallery Visitors wrote after seeing my work with children:

“I always thought I would have a painted portrait of my children done but I love your photos so much and the expressions you capture that I’ve now changed my mind.”

Insecurities About Appearance: Not Photogenic, Age, Dark Skin, Features, Flaws, and Other Concerns

I have a scar (blemish) on my face that I don’t want people to see in my finished portrait. Can Steadman help?

Yes!  I am an expert in photo retouching and can eliminate scars and wrinkles or temporary blemishes when necessary or requested. However, I rarely do much retouch, and often none at all.   Here is what one of my Art Gallery Visitors wrote after seeing my portraits of people that are authentic (No Retouching) and show the “real people.”

My child just lost his two front teeth.  Can we still make a nice portrait?

Yes!  I have done this several times.  Sometimes I show no teeth showing at all, and sometimes I show the gap. In all cases, the portraits are endearing, lovely, distinctive, and authentic.  And, cute too!  Take a look at my Portrait Portfolio.

I never like the way I look in photos. I take terrible photos. I am not photogenic. Can Steadman help me?

Yes! Almost everyone in my portfolio felt the very same way, before they hired me and saw what I could make for them!

Here is what one of my clients wrote in a Client Verbatim Testimonial Comment:

“When I first came into your Art Gallery I was feeling nervous and apprehensive. I have never really seen myself as being a particularly attractive or photogenic person and I was worried…I mistakenly thought I was going to have my photograph taken by a professional photographer when in fact I had my Portrait made by a very talented and gifted artist who made me look upon myself in a new and more positive way.
I absolutely love my portrait. You managed to make me look several years younger and display a sophistication I never knew I had. I keep looking at it and wondering how you managed to capture the “me inside.”

I want some photos of my children that show them smiling and not smiling.  Is that possible?

Yes! I do this every time I photograph a subject or person.  While many of my favorite portraits do not show a large grinning toothy smile, I also have many photographs of the same person who may have been laughing, smiling, or showing great fun expressions during our session.  I can show you these many facets when we meet.

My child has braces on her teeth and is embarrassed by them. Can Steadman make a portrait that does not show the braces?

Yes!  I have done this many times.  Take a look at my Portrait Portfolio

“Thank you for reminding me that beauty exists in imperfections.”

Here is what one client wrote in a Client Verbatim Testimonial Comment after a photo session with me:

“You will never know how special you made me feel that day (during the session). I am always so negative about myself and for one afternoon I felt so special and even a little pretty like a kid again.”

I am old. Can Steadman help me?

Yes! If you are an elder, you really should take the time right now to read what people from around the world have written about my work making portraits of Elders.  I have had such wonderful success helping older adults create a portrait photograph image that they will be happy to leave with their family for future generations to admire. It is a great time for both of us and I can assure you it will be unlike any photo sitting you have ever had before.  It is fun, and it is my specialty.  Click on the following small photos to see them larger.

Here is what the 50 year old daughter (my client) wrote after I photographed her mother (in her 80s):

“What truly amazes me is that in looking at Mother through your eyes I see new things about her that have never occurred to me. I can see the essence of her as a woman.”

“My mother had the time of her life yesterday. The time in your studio was all about her and she loved it. Her eyes in the portrait show that she recaptured her youth for a moment.”

I am old and I have a “turkey neck” I don’t want to see in my photos. Can Steadman help me?

Yes!  This is easy for me to handle. Don’t worry a bit about this.  I have made beautiful portraits of mature adults and “Turkey Neck” is not showing.  Take a look at my Portrait Portfolio

I am overweight and sensitive about my appearance. I still want a nice portrait. Can Steadman help?

Yes! There is nothing to fear. I can work with you to create a beautiful portrait of you. I have done this many times.

Here is a Snapshot Versus Portrait comparison showing another portrait subject,  the same woman in both images. The two photos were made just minutes apart. The portrait image (right, below) shows her in one of the portraits I made of her.  In this particular portrait, I used my Art Style to create a very special portrait of her.

I am handicapped (e.g in a wheel chair).  Can Steadman make a portrait that does not focus on my disability?

Yes! Just call me to discuss what you see as a disability or what you don’t want to show.  I have met many people who assume the worst, only because they have seen the worst.  Let me show you what I can do for you. I am confident you will be very pleased and happy.

Size and Finish and Style and Color of Portrait Prints

I noticed that many of the portraits shown in Steadman’s portfolio have a golden yellow tint to them.  Is that sepia?

No, it is not sepia and it is not an “off the shelf” photo color. What you are seeing is Steadman’s “Signature Style” which is a golden toned photograph. This finish “Steadman’s Golden Tone” is something that has been praised and admired by thousands of art gallery visitors and connoiseurs of fine photography.  It is a special tinting process that was carefully developed by Steadman after many hours of mixing colors to get the right balance.  These photos are amazing to see when properly lit in a home or office or gallery.  The golden hue or tone is one of the Signature Styles that Steadman has developed for his work, it is his favorite, and his most popular finish style. There are even variations of this toning, so some portraits have a more golden look than others. There are very special reasons for this that we can discuss when we meet.  It is optional, but highly recommended. If you prefer to have a Classic Black & White print, you may have that instead. Or if you prefer a Full Color print you may have that instead.

Here are a few examples of Steadman’s Signature Golden Tone finish:

I want both casual and formal portraits. Is this possible?

Yes!  I often make more than one style of portrait for my clients.

I want both a portrait I can hang in my home as “art” and I also need some headshots for my business use. Can Steadman make both types of portraits in a single photo session?

Yes! I have done this many times for many people.  I often make more than one style of portrait for my clients.

Can I get black and white prints? And full color?

Yes! Yes!  I often make more than one style of portrait for my clients and often more than one “finish” (color or Black & White, etc.) for my clients. See the examples up above that show these three possible finishes.  Also, other finishes (tones, colors, hues) are possible too.

Here are three different finishes of the same image.  The example on left is Full Colors.  The middle example is Classic Black & White finish. The example on right is Steadman’s Golden Tone.

.

How large can the portrait be?

Up to 7.5 feet tall or even as large as a billboard! I have made large canvases with a single image as large as 5 x 10 feet in dimension, and everyone who sees it is amazed and impressed by the quality.  See my special page about Size Matters for a scale illustration that shows you some of the many sizes I make or simply look down below on this page for the same illustration. More illustrations (photos showing actual framed portraits) are shown on the Size Matters page, so I do recommend visiting that page too.  Some of the largest sizes possible are not shown in the scale illustration, but it will give you a very good and quick visual idea of what can be made.

Here are some large canvas banners I made for the same horseman and his wife. These banners are 5 feet tall and some are 10 feet wide!

Can we have our choice of a background color?

Yes!  While many of my Studio Portraits may have a black background, that is not required. I can use a background of any color or many types of backgrounds to suit my taste or design or style or preferences of my clients.  Just tell me what you have in mind.

I need a headshot for my business use. Will Steadman make one for me?

Yes! I have done this for many people.

Is it possible for me to use my portrait image on my business cards, brochures, website, billboards, or banners?

Yes, with permission. Just tell me this prior to the photo session. Different types of portrait photographs may have different “rights” assigned to you, so you may use the images for self-promotion or possibly for commercial purposes.  Each case is different, so just make sure you tell me what you intend to do with the photos you want to use for your business purposes.

I don’t want a large wall portrait. Instead, I would like a photo album or portfolio loaded with prints. Is this available from Steadman?

Yes!  I have done this and different types of large portfolios of prints for many families and individuals. I have made many types of photo collections and “things” for them too.

Do I have to buy a large wall portrait or a Lifesize portrait or a painted portrait?

No.  Some clients only want small prints, so I make small prints for them in various sizes (8×10, 4×6, etc.).

My daughter is a young actress/model and wants to have hundreds of ‘headshots’ prints (or model “comp cards”) made to send to casting agents. Can Steadman help us?

Yes! And by special arrangement you can also own a high resolution digital file so you can make your own prints whenever you need one or more for self promotion. This is an option, and it is not available for all photographs.

Makeup or No Makeup and No Makeover in Portraits

I don’t wear any makeup and I want no makeover for my portrait.  Is this possible?

Yes!  I don’t put makeup on ANYONE (men, women, or children)!  This is hard for many people to believe, but it is true!  I also encourage you to view my special page on this site called “Snapshots Versus Portraits.”  You really need to see the examples on that page and remember as you do: I do not do “makeovers” and I do not “add makeup” and I do not “use a makeup artist.”  Take a look for yourself!  Here is one example:

I don’t want someone to put makeup on me.   Can Steadman make me look better without a ‘makeover?’

Giving a Portrait Session as a Gift

Can I give a session with Steadman as a gift?

Yes! I have done this many times.  The recipient of your gift will appreciate this special gift for a lifetime and they will never know how much you spent, as I will keep that a secret between you and me.

Are gift certificates available?

Yes! Steadman will make one especially for you and the nature of your gift.  The recipient of your gift will appreciate this special gift for a lifetime and they will never know how much you spent, as I will keep that a secret between you and me.

Can we get duplicate prints for gifts (Christmas cards)?

Yes! I have done this many times for many different clients.

I want to give a portrait session with Steadman as a gift and I don’t want the gift recipient to know how much was spent and I don’t want them to be pressured to buy anything else.  Is this possible?

Special Needs Subjects

My mother/father/spouse/child/sibling has terminal cancer (or a stroke or disability or terminal illness).  We never got a portrait together before the health problems.  Can Steadman help us before it is too late?

Yes! Don’t delay!  Call now to discuss this and find out what is possible.  Several of my clients have commissioned a portrait of someone who was dying of cancer. I know how special these photos can be and will treat the subject with great sensitivity.  My clients say it is one of the best decisions they have ever made (having me make these photos while there is still time). Even if your family member is in the hospital, there are photographs I can make that you will treasure. Trust me. I lost one parent to cancer and another to a stroke. I know how hard it can be to plan to get more photos, and then find the loved one gone before the photos are made or captured.  My most sincere advice is: DO NOT postpone or delay this!  Make it happen now!  You will not regret doing it now.  You will never forget and always regret it IF you do not make those photos while you still can. I know this from personal experience and from speaking with many people who came to me too late.

The following portrait was made about 30 days before the man had a severe stroke that hospitalized him. This was the last photograph made of him.  We were lucky to get this photo made in time.  Don’t delay or postpone this!

.

I want to submit sexy photos to a magazine that looks like Maxim (Playboy, etc.) and I want my pictures to look like those in that magazine.  Will Steadman help me?

I don’t do typical “glamour photography.”  However, I can help you with a special portrait of you that does show skin or does look sexy or does look appealing or does show off your figure or does show off your features or does show off your curves or does show off your legs or does show how “hot” you are.  Call me to discuss this and tell me what you really want to show and see.

My daughter is a young actress/model and wants to have hundreds of ‘headshots’ made to send to casting agents. Can Steadman help us?

My son is autistic (or Asperger’s Syndrome) and sometimes is a challenge. He will not smile for the camera on command.  Will Steadman have the patience to make a nice portrait of him?

Yes! I have worked with several children whose parents told me there would be a special challenge. The resulting portrait photos are some of my favorites and are really beautiful portraits of a child, showing great unforgettable expressions.  I am confident I can work with any child, whether or not they have challenged other photographers or members of your family who might have taken their picture before.

My grandson had open-heart surgery and many operations that left scars on him. Can Steadman make a nice portrait of him, despite the scars?

Yes! I have done this and the results thrilled the parents and grandparents, and the child had a great time too!

Here is an example of just one of the many wonderful photos of this boy. No retouch was done on his scars either, though in this photo you may not notice the scars, because the expression I captured and the FUN I captured (of this boy and his little brother) are what you will notice.

Commercial Use or Business Use or Self Promotion Use of Portraits

Yes. I can make interesting photos of your men and women, at work, or working (in action).  There are many possibilities for styling and I will discuss this with you in a free consultation.  Here is one example of a “Man at Work” (a welder grinding some steel on a truck body).

You will be too. I will not only make a wonderful set of images of you, but I will design them to show what you want your perfect match to see. Commercial Photography, Business Use,  Corporate Art, Services for Interior Designers

Does  Steadman Uhlich work with interior designers?

Yes. Steadman works with professional interior designers and architects to provide artwork that meets their design needs and gives their clients “WOW” art.

With literally hundreds of unique artworks to choose from and hundreds of frames in stock, the variations and unique combinations give the professional designer practically countless options that work with antique or contemporary furnishings. Design and display flexibility is one of his strengths.

Leading design professionals not only admire and recommend the work of Steadman Uhlich, they also find his helpful attitude refreshing. Steadman’s courtesy to the design trade is always appreciated by design professionals.

Leading interior designers such as Richard Tubbs, Phillip Sides, Sean Beam, David Walker, and Holly Shirley have all seen the beauty and design of Steadman Uhlich’s work and selected his work for display in their showcase rooms in the Decorator Showhouse homes in Birmingham and Highlands, North Carolina.

Comments from Decorator Show House visitors included:
“Everyone was raving about your work” and “Your art looked so beautiful in the home,” “All of my friends thought they (the art pieces) were gorgeous,” and “The botanicals look so fresh and different…truly beautiful and unique.”

Can I arrange a private showing of the art at a time during or outside of normal business hours?

Yes. I make every possible effort to make it convenient for art collectors to view the art prior to purchase. If you have special needs due to work or travel schedules, please call and let me know. Please be aware that if you call and receive a voice recording, it simply means I am helping another client. Please leave a detailed voice message and I will return your call as soon as possible.

Can I sell or represent The Steadman Uhlich Collection in my area?

Yes, that is possible. Qualified art galleries and art dealers can sell or represent the hundreds of beautiful artworks in The Steadman Uhlich Collection. Call to ask how.

Does Steadman Uhlich use or need models?

No. Steadman Uhlich does not use models. All portraits of people are “commissioned” portraits where Steadman has been paid to make the portrait using his unique styles and skills. Duplicates of some of these portrait images (especially the “Art Style”) are available for purchase by art and photography collectors. All people portrait images have a “release.” If you are wanting to have a “model portfolio” made, Steadman can make one for you, but you will have to pay him to do so.

.

Weddings and Bridal Portraits

I need a wedding photographer. Does Steadman do weddings?

No. I prefer to create distinctive Bridal Portraits instead. Some brides (and grooms) hire me in addition to a wedding photographer. I have been commissioned to make bridal portraits months before a wedding, months after a wedding, and even years after a wedding.  Several brides came to me for a bridal portrait years after their wedding. The record so far is 5 years after the wedding!  She was thrilled by the results.  See my Portrait Portfolio for a few examples from the many bridal portraits I have made for many happy brides.

. . . . .

My wife has never liked the bridal portrait she got from our wedding photographer when we got married.  She actually hates it. It looks like a snapshot that was blown up to 16×20.  Of course the photographer said it was “free” if we hired him to do the wedding photography. I would like to give her another bridal portrait she would like.  We were married five years ago.  Is that too late? Will Steadman help?

Yes!  I have been hired by several men and women to create a Bridal Portrait literally years after their wedding.  The results are “unforgettable.” Women have shed tears when finally getting the beautiful image they always wanted of themselves in their wedding dress. Two years, three years, four years, five years after a wedding it can still be done. The bride gets a dream fulfilled with an unforgettable portrait.

.

Glamour Photography, Nudes, Showing Skin

I want to have a set of photos showing me nude but I don’t want those photos on the internet or published. I want them kept private.  Will Steadman help me?

Yes. I don’t do typical “glamour photography” or typical “boudoir photography” but I can make you a Strictly Private collection of art or erotic photographs showing you partially or totally nude if you desire that.  Certain restrictions apply (posing, age, reproduction rights, etc.).  These photos are not shown online or on any website. They are “Strictly Private” and only for you.

I want to submit sexy photos to a magazine that looks like Maxim (Playboy, etc.) and I want my pictures to look like those in that magazine.  Will Steadman help me?

I don’t do typical “glamour photography.”  If you want something special and artistic, we should talk. If you want something very special and for private viewing, we should talk. If you want something that looks like the very common looking glamour photography, I will pass.

.

Pets, Dogs, Cats

I have a pet (e.g. dog, cat, bird, snake) and want to have a special portrait of my pet?  I may want to be included in a shot with the pet.  Will Steadman help me?

Yes! Hire me if you want my unique creative styles and distinctive work. I can create images of your pet that will amuse, entertain, and touch you. I can also create “Art” using your pet. I have a lot of ideas that are just waiting for the right client and pet to appear.

Workshops, Teaching, Mentoring Photographers

Does Steadman teach workshops or offer tutoring or mentoring to other photographers?

No. I don’t have the time to arrange large group workshops. I do offer Private Tutoring and Mentoring to selected individuals who want to learn more about photography or who want to improve their own photography. Call me to learn more.   I also encourage you to read some of the hundreds of Verbatim Testimonial Comments from Photographers I have helped in the past. See what they had to say about my skill in helping them see their own photography in a new way or how I helped them.  Hundreds of these Verbatim Testimonial Comments were unsolicited and publicly posted on the internet by these photographers.

Charity Auctions and Fund Raising for Charity

I am a member of a local charity organization (e.g. Junior League, Horse Rescue, Animal Shelter) and we have a thrift store and fund-raising bazaar each year.  We have a raffle and silent auction. Will Steadman help me by donating a portrait sitting?

No. I support charitable organizations in other ways.  However, I do encourage you to call me, so you can tell me about your charity. There is a possibility I could do something for your charity that would be much more valuable and beneficial to your charity.

.

Photo Restoration, Photo Copying, Photo Duplication

I have an old photo done by another studio/photographer and I need to have it ‘restored’ because it has faded or gotten damaged.  Will Steadman restore the photo for me?

No. Contact the original photographer if they are still in business or take the photo to a local camera shop or graphic artist.  I do not have time to do restorations.

I am selling my house and need photos of the interior. Will Steadman do it for me?

It depends on your requirements. Contact me for details.

I have a photo done by another studio/photographer and I want bigger prints or more copies.  Will Steadman make copies for me?

No. Contact the original photographer. I do not copy or duplicate the work of other photographers.

Why can’t I buy a photo from the website?

This basic website was created as a convenience for you in order to provide general information about the Steadman Uhlich Fine Art Collection (SUFA), Steadman Uhlich (the Artist), and to answer commonly asked questions and requests for general information. There are over 350 unique portraits on this website and 180 in another linked online portfolio and 50 Global Favorites (see link in upper left of this page)!

If you have any questions about whether the quality of you portrait will be of high quality, then simply look over Steadman’s online portfolios where you will see many examples of his various styles of portraits made of people of all ages, from infants to someone 100 years young!

You can also see 1,000 recent photos from Steadman’s current traveling project (The Equestrian Project) where Steadman is traveling through the American West photographing various subjects (including horses and people) for his concurrent book projects.  You will see many fascinating portraits of people Steadman has met during his current travels.  To view these, simply visit Steadman’s facebook profile page and view his timeline photo album. While there, you are invited to become a new facebook friend too.

A complex website showing many photos of the hundreds of artworks available for purchase is under construction and will replace this website when it is finished.

Because of the extent of the Steadman Uhlich Collection, it is a big project and takes time to create. We do not sell artwork via a website so the Studio needs are different from many other businesses. We invite you to meet the artist in person to see our extensive collection and the original artwork framed.Art gallery visitors are impressed and we are confident you will be too. We invite you to read the Art Gallery Visitor Comments to give you an idea of what you may see when you see the SUFA Collection.

Sizes of Photographs Available

What size photograph or portrait can I have made for me?  I want a large portrait in my home or office. Can a photographic portrait be made large enough for my needs?

Can I have a photo or art custom-made to a special size for me?

Yes!  Steadman Uhlich often makes artwork and photographs to the size needed by a client or designer. How big can this be? They could be big enough to fill a bill-board you see on the highway. Size is not a limitation. In fact, some of Steadman’s fine art photographs have already been made up to 60 inches tall and they are “stunning.”

What will it look like when framed?  Is it better to have a photograph on paper or on canvas?

Click the photo below to enlarge it for easier viewing. The photo below shows two portraits made for the same size frame (sizes of frames are determined by the opening of the frame).  Both frames are 6 inches wide and both have an opening of 24 x 36 inches.  Notice that the photograph on paper is on the left.  Notice that it is in a “window mat” and that means the photograph print itself must be made smaller. In this example, the photograph on paper is 20 x 30 inches.  Now look at the portrait on the right. It has been made as a “canvas giclee” or made ON canvas.  This is NOT a paper print glued to a canvas. It is a canvas that has been painted by a wide format archival ink printer.  This is the current best technology for making a lasting image on canvas.  Notice that the canvas fills the frame opening.  So, while both portraits are in the same size frame (opening) the canvas is larger (24 x 36 inches) than the photo that is mounted in a mat.

_______________

Here is a photo showing me with some of the large canvases I  made in 2012 for my foxhunting friends and other equestrians.  At the time this photo was made, I was a guest staying alone on a remote ranch in Kansas, with many miles to the nearest internet connection lots of solitude. It was winter too, hence the long beard I wore at the time.  Despite the remoteness of my location, I was still able to make this large set of large canvases for my clients.  They are shown here prior to delivery of them to the clients.

The largest is a 40×40 canvas of “English” with other canvases in 36×36, 30×30 and 24×36 sizes among others. The other canvases not shown in this photo were very striking too and among my favorites of my recent work. It was nice to see them all displayed together in one room.

Here is a photo showing  some of the large framed portraits I made. This photo shows original photographs (paper photo prints) mounted in mats, behind glass, and mounted in large gold leaf finished wood frames.  This is a set of large wall portraits in one of the various styles of presentations (how it a portrait is displayed or mounted) I use.  This is just one choice available to you.  Countless frame styles are available.
