Rodeo Project

The Rodeo Project

As part of my three year long Equestrian Project, I am studying and photographing all aspects of horsemanship for my books and future art exhibits.  As one of my projects, I have spent many months and many man hours focused on the western sport of Rodeo.  Rodeo is a fascinating subject for me. I enjoy seeing the men and animals in action, the thrill of risky rides, and the entire atmosphere surrounding the rodeo events.  My book about rodeo is going to be special for a number of reasons which will be revealed when the books come out in the future.  In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy seeing just a small sample of some of the photographs I made for this book project.  There are literally over 1,000 finished photos (book quality) in my portfolio and the number increases as I have time to edit more.  What you see below is just a very small sample of this very extensive portfolio.  Many of my favorite images are reserved for later publication and are not shown on the internet anywhere at this time.  If you were in one of the rodeos I photographed, you should contact me to learn more, as soon as possible.

The Professional Rodeo

One of the most exciting horse riding disciplines for many is Rodeo bronco or “bareback bronc” riding. I will post a few of my finished images from the World’s Second Largest Rodeo, Omaha’s River City Rodeo (PRCA Million Dollar Tour rodeo). The photos you see below are just a small sample from my own large collection of hundreds of Fine Art photographs I made while at this rodeo and that can be purchased in various sizes and finishes. If you would like to purchase a print of any size, contact me to discuss your preferences. If you have a favorite bronco rider (bareback or saddlebronc) or bull rider who was in the Omaha rodeo and you would like a unique photograph of your favorite rodeo star, contact me. Many of these action photographic images can be made up to 40×40″ in size on canvas and they would be very impressive in any home or office or art collection (museum, private, or corporate).

Take Five! Fast Action: Five shots in five seconds!

The following five Action Portraits are of the same rider on the same horse, riding in the Bareback Bronco event at the Rodeo. These five shots were made in just FIVE seconds as the horse exploded from the chute and began to buck. The action was fast and the motion violent. It was amazing to watch the young rider hanging on through this. He is a real professional (PRCA) rider who has a right to swagger when he walks! Fine art photographic prints of this series (all five shots to be displayed together) or individual photos can be made in many sizes and are available by contacting Steadman.

The Amateur Rodeo

As part of my two-year long Equestrian Project, I am visiting and photographing various horse sports for my multiple book projects. I enjoy watching rodeo sports and will include local small town or amateur rodeos in my Project, because there are so many people involved on a local level. I have already photographed multiple “small town” rodeos and have hundreds of finished images ready for my books. While there are many exciting and beautiful photos of local rodeos in my portfolio already, I continue to visit rodeos and to add to my portfolio. If you host or manage or run a rodeo, contact me and let me know about it and I may be able to visit your rodeo too. As this single page on my site is so long and large, I am only going to include a few photos here. Contact me if you wish to see more.

The following promotional card shows a few of my favorite images from just one rodeo, the Kueckelhan Ranch Rodeo.  There are thousands of more shots and hundreds of finished images (ready for book publication) from each rodeo I attended, and I have attended quite a few so far, with more to come.
